Replica Firearm Recovered After Disturbance in Niagara Falls

On September 28th, 2023, at 8:00pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) responded to a disturbance in the area of Huggins Street near Portage Road, in the City of Niagara Falls.

When officers arrived the disturbance was over, however it was reported that an individual involved had brandished what was believed to be a black handgun.  Officers located the individual a short distance away and placed him under arrest.  Search incident to arrest, officers located a replica Glock 17 airsoft firearm equipped with an optical laser.  The airsoft was found to be loaded with a single 9mm round of ammunition.

Matthew Allan CHISHOLM (18 years) of Welland has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Pointing a Firearm

• Possession of a Weapon

• Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

CHISHOLM remains in police custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing later today (September 29th, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
