Niagara-on-the-Lake Extends Temporary Patio Program to 2025

At the February 27, 2024, Council Meeting, Town Council passed the Temporary Use By-law to allow the extension of restaurant and bar patios until February 28, 2025, subject to the Town’s Temporary Patio Program requirements.

The extension of the Temporary Use By-law allows for the continuation of the temporary patio program in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the 2024 season, for a maximum of 8 months, and the continued review of the program.

“The patios throughout Town truly bring a lively spirit to our streets during the spring and summer seasons, and I am happy to see this extension permitted once again. On behalf of Town Council, thank you to the business owners who operate patios in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the residents and visitors who support local!”

Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa

“Town Staff reviewed the Temporary Patio Program last year and are working diligently toward conducting more research and providing recommendations for a permanent program in the future,” stated Director of Community and Development Services Kirsten McCauley. “Thank you to Town Staff for their efforts in the review of this program.”

The application process opened on March 1, 2024, and remains free of charge for the 2024 season. Business owners can apply to renew an existing permit, or apply for a new Temporary Patio Permit, as applicable, at Town Staff are happy to assist businesses through this process and answer any questions.
